The Elecetricity at Work Regulations 1989 make specific requirements for the safe use and maintenance of electrical equipment in the workplace.
Faulty electrical equipment is extremely dangerous and can cause fatal electric shocks, electric burns and fires.
These hazards can be minimised if electrical equipment is regularly checked and maintained. If equipment is not propely maintained or is used in an unsuitable enviroment, or for the purpose for which it is not intended, it can become damaged and dangerous.
Portable appliance testing (pat) is an important part of a company’s or individual’s responsibility to comply with health and safety legislation. This is achieved by a series of specialised testing procedures on your portable appliances.
Then a series of electrical tests (depending on the class of the appliance) this may include.
On completion of above tests (depending on the class which apply to different appliances) the equipment will be labelled and given its unique number to be added to the pat register which the customer will receive on completion of all tested appliances on your site.
Portable Appliance Testing is at the forefront of the majority of companies as a site safety priority. Pat testing is our speciality so we know the industry well and understand the regulations governing electrical safety in the workplace.
We test all types of equipment from 230v as found in offices, shops, hairdressers etc to 115v as found on building sites.
All inspection and test results are formally recorded and presented to the customer together with a relevant test certificate. Results are supplied in printed format which gives the customer instant inventory of electrical appliances on their premises.
All records are stored on a database. This enables us to inform you the customer when re-inspection is required
Pat testing/inspection can be arranged at a time to suit the customer thus avoiding interruption of business

Following City and Guilds guidelines removable power leads are treated as separate items therefore a typical computer setup is four items and not two (monitor pc and two leads). Power leads are tested separately as a Class 1 appliance. This mainly applies to IT Equipment with removable leads.
Servers, Network Switches,Hubs and Telecommunications equipment etc will not be tested without the express permission of the client.
When testing appliances such as clocks, video recorders satellite receivers etc that have to be reset after switch on will only be unplugged and inspected with the express permission from the client ,and is the responsibility of the client to reprogram this type of equipment if necessary.
